Katherine Brunt is 'absolutely gutted' that England Women lost their World Twenty20 semi-final to Australia on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old fast bowler from Dodworth conceded 25 runs in three wicketless overs as the Aussies made 132 for six batting first in Delhi. England's openers then put on a stand of 67 for the first wicket before the team collapsed as they have done on several occasions in this tournament.

Brunt came in at 103 for five then smacked a six and a four in an entertaining five-ball innings before being bowled out for 11. England fell short on 127 for seven and will not be joining the men – who beat New Zealand comfortably later that day – in Sunday's final.

"It's very disappointing," the former Barnsley CC star told the Chronicle.

"I am not getting any younger and I want to be winning as many trophies as I possibly can. That is the fourth time in the last couple of years that the Aussies have knocked us out of a World Cup, be it over 50 overs or 20. The worst part is that they are not playing better than us, we are just making silly mistakes and losing the matches for ourselves."
