Next season will be a testimonial campaign for Barnsley stalwart Bobby Hassell after he signed a new one-year deal with the club.

The 33-year-old defender has made 295 appearances for the Reds since signing from Mansfield in 2004.

There will be several testimonial events throughout the season for Hassell, who played 21 times and scored once last season.

Hassell, who recently became a father for the fourth time, told the club's website: “I’m really happy I’ve been able to sign a new contract. I’m happy with the deal and I’m looking forward to the start of the new season.
“This summer has been quite hectic for me. I’ve been on coaching courses and with my wife in and out of hospital with our fourth child and that’s the main reason it’s taken time get everything sorted out with a new contract here.
“I’ve never had so many people stop me in the street begging me to sign a new contract which is quite humbling, but at that time I hadn’t spoken to anyone because I was more concerned about my wife’s illness and the baby.”
Five of the seven out-of-contract players offered new deals in May have now signed, with only Martin Cranie and Luke Steele yet to make a decision.
The squad were back in training today.
