SHE may have spent most her life struggling with a stammer but performing arts star Frankie Farrar has landed the lead role in a musical production.

The 17-year-old, of Manchester Road, Langsett, will speak, sing and dance when she plays Tracy Turnblad in Razzmatazz Community Youth Musical Theatre Company's version of Hairspray.

Proud mum Sandra, 46, said: "The main problems have been saying her name, speaking on the phone and speaking to strangers.

"She wouldn't put her hand up at school and she's only just learned to ask for a train ticket. She's always wanted to perform and I think it's in her."

Frankie has been helped with her stutter by the McGuire Programme, a treatment course which was used by singer Gareth Gates, and the British Stammering Association.

Hairspray will be performed at 7.15pm from Wednesday until next Saturday at Penistone Paramount.
