Kane Hemmings says he will have the confidence to bury chances like the crucial one he spurned at Chesterfield on Saturday if he is given a longer run.

The 22-year-old, who has two goals in 14 games since signing from Cowdenbeath in the summer, was put clean through at 1-0 down but hesitated before his shot was diverted wide. Chesterfield got their second goal five minutes later and won 2-1.

"I should have scored but it won't get me down," Hemmings told the Chronicle.

"I just have to take the next chance and stay in the team and my confidence in front of goal will grow from there. It was disappointing to lose but we have got three home games in a row now against Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Chester so hopefully we can get another run going and I want to be a big part of that if I can."

Hemmings is a striker but has been asked to play behind Sam Winnall and Devante Cole at the peak of a midfield diamond in the last two matches. He admits it is not his natural position but is just delighted to get his first starts since the loss to Swindon in September.

"It's not where I normally play but it's fine. When you have two strikers who are scoring goals and playing well like Sam and Devante you can't really complain at not starting up front. "I will play wherever the manager asks me to play."
