AN appeal has been made by a Grimethorpe school after its on-site farm was broken into last weekend.

Staff at Milefield Primary, whose farm has alpacas, donkeys and pigs, believe the grounds were broken into at some point between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Although none of the animals were harmed, the school’s Yorkshire in Bloom competition bid has been left in tatters after thieves got away with its hanging baskets and plants.

Theresa Clarke, wellbeing manager at the school said: “The judge is due to arrive soon and we’d put a lot of work into what we were planning on showing off. The padlocks are heavy duty ones but we think they used an angle grinder to get through them for access.

“We also found a ladder on Saturday morning, so we think they were planning on coming back.

“It’s upset the children as we had our heart set on doing well for Yorkshire in Bloom, something which encourages residents to take pride in their villages.

“We would like to appeal to anyone who can donate plants or hanging baskets to do so as it would really help us out and put a smile back on children’s faces.”
