BARNSLEY Council helped ensure more than 5,000 children were given essential meals over the half-term holiday.
After MPs voted against the motion to provide vouchers to struggling families in the House of Commons, local authorities stepped to the fore.
Barnsley Council said it’s supplied the families of 5,245 children with £15 payments in place of their usual free school meals.
The payments continued this week ahead of the scheme closing today.
