BRIDGE End could become a major traffic hot spot in a few years if a bypass scheme is given the go ahead, according to one councillor.

Andrew Millner, who was elected to Barnsley Council last week, was speaking out against Highways Agency plans to artificially delay over the Woodhead Pass by installing traffic lights on the Flouch roundabout.

The proposals were drawn up in response to concerns the proposed £112m bypass of Mottram and Tintwistle near Manchester would result in a big increases in traffic using the route.

Coun Millner said: "It is absolutely outrageous and a daft idea which is only going to make traffic queue farther back down the road into Millhouse Green and Thurlstone.
