FIVE areas of Barnsley have seen rates of Covid cases rise above 400 per 100,000 people, as the borough’s rate continues to climb.

Cudworth has the highest rate at 587.9 per 100,000, after 36 cases were registered in the last seven days.

The government figures show Bolton-upon-Dearne has a rate of 503.2 per 100,000, Lundwood has a rate of 471.7, the area comprising Silkstone, Hoylandswaine and Cawthorne’s rate is 423.2, and Goldthorpe’s is 400.4.

The areas surrounding those also have somewhat high rates, around 200 to 350 per 100,000, while Barnsley town centre, Dodworth, Mapplewell and Staincross, and Athersley are less than 200.

Barnsley’s latest rate is 286.8 per 100,000.
