A WORSBROUGH man has been ordered to pay almost £1,000 for fraudulently using a blue badge in the town centre.

Ruslans Kulkovs, 47, of Greenwood Avenue, was found guilty in his absence of using it without the badge holder being present while parked in a disabled bay on New Street.

Kulkovs was fined £440 and made to pay £450 in additional costs as well as a £44 victim surcharge.

Shokat Lal, executive director for core services for Barnsley Council, said: “Convictions send a clear message to people of the consequences for misusing a blue badge.

“It’s a criminal offence that could result in a fine of £1,000 and confiscation of the badge.

“Our enforcement team will continue to combat fraud and, where appropriate, will prosecute.”
