POLICE have appealed for information after a young motorist from Barnsley died following a crash.

The incident, which took place on the B1222 Bishopdyke Road in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, happened at about 10.30pm on December 27.

The man’s Renault Clio left the road and landed in a channel of water known as Bishop Dyke.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the casualties and to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and reopened at around 11am on December 28.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said: “Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of collision.

“Did you see the car travelling towards Sherburn-in-Elmet in the minutes leading up to the incident?

“We want anyone who witnessed or passed the incident to contact us, particularly if they saw this vehicle with any other vehicles.

“Anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the vehicle before the collision or of the collision, is also asked to get in touch.”
