ALMOST 50,000 pensioners in Barnsley could see their energy bill savings wiped out by the Conservative cut to state pension.
Analysis from Labour shows the basic state pension will be worth hundreds of pounds less over the next year, ultimately affecting 44,742 pensioners in the town.
Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley Central and the South Yorkshire Mayor, said he will continue to campaign for pension justice following the ‘devastating backdrop’ of increased energy bills.
Dan said: “At a time of rising energy bills and prices going up in the shops, Tory MPs have now pushed through a real terms cuts to pensions and support families rely on.
“This Conservative government cannot be trusted to stand up for communities like Barnsley.
“I will continue to campaign for pension justice and dignity in retirement for all our older residents.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
