A WOMAN died following a road traffic collision in Darfield on Monday afternoon.

Doncaster Road, between Cumberland Drive and Barnsley Road, was closed for a number of hours due to the collision.

It was confirmed that a woman died following the crash, which involved two cars.

Coun Kevin Osborne, who represents the Darfield ward, said: “My sincere condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends and I wish a speedy recovery of all others who suffered injuries in the incident.

“Thanks must go to our emergency services who responded so quickly, including South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

“This is a major road into Barnsley and accidents of any kinds are of concern.

“I hope the investigation into the cause of this most recent incident is concluded quickly and any recommendations for future action implemented just as quickly.”
