A PETITION calling for a 20mph zone outside a primary school was discussed by ruling councillors this week.
The 64-signature document - generated by Dodworth ward Couns Peter Fielding and Will Fielding - relates to Keresforth Primary and went before Barnsley Council’s cabinet on Wednesday.
Peter said: “Keresforth Road is a 30mph zone, but it’s 40mph until you get to just over the motorway bridge coming from Barnsley, and I think that’s part of the problem.
“We have been pushing for more 20mph zones outside schools.”
A council report revealed the local authority is assessing concerns relating to vehicles’ speeds near schools across the borough.
It added: “This evaluation is part of the approved budget for 2022/23.
“It will consider the installation of 20mph signs at this location as part of an ongoing school safety programme.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
