A LOCAL history day was held in a historic corner of Barnsley at the weekend - along with the unveiling of a new miners’ memorial.

The event was held by the Worsbrough Ward Alliance and Worsbrough local history groups on Friday and Saturday last week.

Displays and exhibitions were given from a range of local entities, including Barnsley Heritage Connects and Worsbrough Mill.

A new miners’ memorial was unveiled at Park Road in memory of the area’s heritage - and is intended to be recognised by future generations in memory of the village’s past.

Worsbrough Coun Jake Lodge attended the event, he said: “It was great to bring our community together over the past weekend to celebrate our rich industrial heritage, as well as the fantastic residents past and present.

“My hope is that the last weekend and the newly-positioned monument will allow future generations to continue to recognise our heritage.

“My thanks go out to all groups that made this all possible.”
