A BARNSLEY doctor has literally put the town on the map after sharing his expertise at an international working group on acute kidney injury.

Dr Steve Lobaz, consultant in anaesthetics and intensive care medicine, is a part of the group - and Barnsley Hospital appeared on a map for the agenda alongside hospitals in Italy and Spain.

As part of this working group, Dr Lobaz and Barnsley Hospital’s ICU will be evaluating the role of the CCL-14 biomarker in identifying patients with persistent AKI and how it may be used to improve patient outcomes.

Deborah Firth, who works with Dr Lobaz at the hospital, said: “He is an anaesthetist but is also our lead and guiding light for AKI, including prevention and management.

“The fact that he was invited to this event confirms recognition from experts around the world, notably those from much bigger teaching hospitals.”
