A GROUP of grannies have celebrated raising almost £3,000 for Barnsley Hospice - surpassing their goal almost twice over.
The ‘Grabby Grannies’ meet at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road in Kingstone at 1pm every Thursday, and have held fundraisers from auctioning off pork pies to weekly events in a mission to raise £1,000 for the hospice.
Their grand total now sits at £2,843 after an afternoon of music and games at the group’s weekly meet up.
Group member Judy Holling, a past Proud of Barnsley award nominee, has raised thousands for the hospice over the years and plans to keep going.
“It’s been so fun,” she said.
“Our oldest member in the group is 85 in July and the youngest is ten - she gets involved out of school and does all sorts.
“We have all ages and we all have a great time.
“It’s not a big group but it’s just a lovely group - it’s a really good social time we have.
“I’d also like to thank Marks and Spencer and Morrisons - they have been great.”
