A THRIVING local cricket club has expanded their facilities due to increased club membership.

Higham CC was on the brink of closure in 2015, but due to investment and hard work, the club has gone from strength to strength - with an expanding women and girls’ section prompting the need for new changing facilities.

At the official opening last Saturday, director of business at Higham, Dan Bamforth, said: “We are thoroughly delighted to officially open the new facilities here at Higham CC.

“Over the past four years, the club has continued to expand exponentially and as a result we required additional facilities at the club to meet our ongoing demand.”

The new facilities were part-funded by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and former England test cricketer Angus Fraser was there to cut the ribbon.

Dan added: “We do not take the support we have received for granted.

“We are humbled to have been successful in achieving capital funding towards this project and are looking forward to moving forward with the next stages of our development plan.

“A lot of hard work has gone into this project and we’re delighted to finally be able to showcase this to the community.”
