ALMOST 20 members of the Barnsley Schwabisch Gmund society travelled to Germany last week to join the 50th anniversary celebrations of the twinning of the two towns.

As part of an international festival, Schwabisch Gmund hosted society members as well as sports and music groups from their other twin towns.

Janine Dyer proudly represented the town, as well as rock and blues trio Besar.

Officials and players from Worsbrough Bridge AFC, who have established their own partnership, also visited and played against FC Normannia.

Society co-chair Alan Brentnall said: “The football partnership is a great example of what town twinning is really all about, rooted in the community, groups of people learning about each other and making friends.

“I invite all community clubs and organisations who might have an interest in learning about their equivalent interest groups in Schwabisch Gmund to contact me through our website www.bsgtts.org or on email at bsgtts@gmail.com with a view to establishing other partnerships.”
