BARNSLEY Hospital has been shortlisted for an award in this year’s Nursing Times Awards.

The trust has been nominated in the emergency and critical care category for its same-day emergency care (SDEC) work.

The service aims to provide patients with the specialist care they need without admitting them to a hospital bed.

The category winners will be announced during the ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on October 26.

Gavin Boyle, chief executive of NHS South Yorkshire, said: “The Nursing Times Awards bring together the nursing community and recognise those who make nursing innovative and patient-focused.

“It really is an honour to have them shortlisted for their incredible contributions to our healthcare system.

“The nominated categories cover key areas in which we are able to showcase how our integrated approach is helping to deliver better care.

“On behalf of NHS South Yorkshire and all those communities we represent I want to congratulate nursing colleagues for this achievement.”
