PENISTONE and Stocksbridge MP Miriam Cates returned to the site of the Woodland Drive fires last week.

Ms Cates said a number of residents neighbouring the site still remain unclear about the future of their own properties.

She said: “It was helpful to have the opportunity to speak with neighbours of those directly affected and I was reassured to hear from them that work has been done to secure the site and extend safety measures.

“South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have undertaken fire safety checks, and Berneslai Homes are increasing the roll-out of fire detectors in all their properties.

“It’s also reassuring to know that support packages and rehousing have been arranged for those unable to return to their homes.

“Whilst the investigations of damaged properties continue, the sites where homes had to be demolished are also now being made safe on behalf of local residents.

“I would again like to recognise the generous community effort that meant everyone affected was provided with the help and support they needed and give my thanks to the emergency teams who responded to the incident.”
