THE trial of a dad accused of murdering his nine-week-old baby is expected to end later this month.

Leon Mathias, of Stonebridge Lane, Great Houghton, denies assaulting and murdering his son, Hunter, who was taken to hospital with injuries on November 30, 2018, and died days later.

The 33-year-old - who has been hearing evidence at Sheffield Crown Court this week - was charged with murder as well as wounding with intent.

Hunter’s injuries were examined in a post-mortem as well as in an X-ray and CT scan.

The prosecution alleged Hunter was ‘violently swung’ after Mathias lost his temper, potentially due to the baby crying.

Mathias, whose trial started last year, was in court yesterday as the jury heard from witnesses.

The trial continues and is expected to end mid-January.
