A BARNSLEY woman has been appointed as the new chair to the board of Yorkshire’s largest mixed sector multi-academy trust.
Cheryl Hobson takes over the position at Barnsley-based Wellspring Academy Trust from former chair Hearl Lenton and brings more than 30 years’ experience in finance, local government and the NHS to the role.
Cheryl has been involved in Wellspring’s governance as a board member and co-opted member of the Finance and Resources Committee since 2015.
She said: “Being part of Wellspring’s journey so far has brought me a huge sense of pride and joy, so I’m honoured to take on the role of chair of the board.
"As someone born and raised in Barnsley and a product of the comprehensive school system here, I understand the communities in which a lot of Wellspring’s schools are based. The positive impact the Trust is having on those communities is phenomenal.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
