BARNSLEY Council have raked in more than £380,000 in parking fines since 2020 - with thousands of tickets handed out in the first half of last year.
Statistics, revealed through a Freedom of Information request, show that 2,212 penalty charge notices handed out by Barnsley Council in the six months to June 2022 - equivalent to 12 each day.
This was a fall from 20 per day across the whole of 2021 - although seasonal variations and Covid-19 lockdowns may have contributed.
The figures also show the council brought in £60,731 in revenue in the first half of 2022 from penalty charge notices - or £337 a day.
This was a fall from £448 a day across the whole of 2021.
The figures further show £381,591 has been collected by Barnsley Council from parking tickets from the start of 2020 to June 2022.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
