A MEMORIAL tree has been planted in remembrance of a five-year-old boy who lost his battle with cancer just two days before Christmas.
George Alexander Singleton was originally diagnosed with neuroblastoma - a rare type of cancer that mostly effects babies and young children - in 2018.
His mum, Claire Denton, was on hand to unveil the red-leafed tree - George’s favourite colour - at St John’s Primary School, Penistone, on Monday.
She said: “George always had a smile on his face no matter what - we’re completely lost without him.”
A school spokesperson added: “We planted a tree at our school in the picnic area in remembrance of George with his mum, brother and sister.
“Thank to our grounds maintenance provider, Twiggs, for supplying the tree and assisting with the planting.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
