A PARISH council chairman who has clocked up almost four decades of service to his village will step down next month.
Dave North, 80, has served on Shafton Parish Council since 1986 and as its chairman since 1991.
Born in Grimethorpe, Dave moved to Shafton and also served as the North East ward’s councillor for two years.
“At our monthly meeting on Monday, I announced that I was stepping down - it’s been something I’ve enjoyed and I’ll always keep doing my bit for the village,” he told the Chronicle.
“I feel like I’ve made a positive difference to Shafton and next month’s meeting will be my last.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
