TRIBUTES have poured in for a Barnsley fan who lost his life shortly after Tuesday night’s fixture against Lincoln City.
Anton Roberts, who was in his 60s, fell ill on a coach at about 10pm following the Reds’ goalless draw.
A statement released by Barnsley Football Club said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a supporter at Tuesday night’s fixture against Lincoln City.
“Anton received treatment from emergency services outside of the LNER Stadium following the game, but devastatingly passed away.
“The club has been liaising with and will continue to support the family and friends of Mr Roberts through this exceptionally difficult time, whilst asking for their privacy to be respected.”
Head coach Michael Duff added: “It puts the everything into perspective - someone has gone to watch a football match and not come home.
“We send condolences to his family and to people on the bus because it will live with them forever.”
