AN Oscar-winning actor travelled to Barnsley for his latest film which is set to hit the big screens today.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, based on the book of the same name, is directed by BAFTA winner Hettie Macdonald.

The film tells the story of a man who leaves his seaside town in South Devon to deliver a message to an old friend.

He walked more than 500 miles to Berwick-upon-Tweed, calling off at Barnsley along the way.

Jim Broadbent who has appeared in Harry Potter and Only Fools and Horses and Penelope Wilton, from After Life, are the main actors in the film.

They filmed in Staincross and Barnsley, as well as Chapeltown.

The film hit cinema screens today.
