BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis welcomed a local primary school to Parliament last week to celebrate their latest achievement,

Oakwell Rise, based on Doncaster Road, were ranked number one in Yorkshire at the Kellogg’s Breakfast School Awards.

The purpose of the awards is to celebrate best practice in breakfast club provision and recognise the role played by the schools, teachers, parents, and children in helping them run.

Dan told the Chronicle: “It is excellent that the efforts of students and staff at Oakwell Rise Academy have been recognised in Parliament, with their breakfast club winning best in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

“I know how hard staff work to put on breakfast clubs, which have a transformative impact on families.

“Not only do they help enable parents to work, but they also improve attendance and most importantly provide a decent meal to fuel children throughout the morning.

“Oakwell Rise is not only flying the flag for Barnsley, but Yorkshire and they should be proud of their achievement.”
