A GRIMETHORPE playground was vandalised this week - and the council have confirmed the broken equipment won’t be replaced.
The swings at the Millennium Green playground were vandalised on Monday night, and a joint council and police investigation is now underway to find those responsible.
If you have any information about the incident, residents are asked to get in touch with safer@barnsley.gov.uk.
Coun Ashley Peace, who represents the North East ward, told the Chronicle it is a minority of people ruining it for the majority of residents.
“It’s completely unacceptable that we have people in and around our community that think it’s acceptable to keep destroying our parks and open spaces,” he said.
“Whilst it’s disappointing that we’ve had to take the decision not to replace the damaged items, it’s a decision I completely support.
“We cannot afford, in the current climate to keep throwing money at an area when it’s going to be damaged time and time again.
“It’s a shame that once again the actions of the minority have a negative impact on the majority.”
