A COUNCILLOR has asked relevant authorities to step up patrols around the borough in an attempt to prevent antisocial behaviour after criminal damage was caused to a local park last weekend.
Coun Steve Hunt, who represents the Darton East ward, said that the damage caused at Mapplewell Park on Friday was ‘extremely disappointing and frustrating’ to see, spurring him into action with South Yorkshire Police and Barnsley Council’s Safer Neighbourhood Team.
He told the Chronicle: “The trees that were damaged were planted by volunteers from the Mapplewell and Staincross Greenspace Group who do fantastic work within our community.
“It is sad to see a small minority continue to try and spoil things in Mapplewell which is a wonderful village with a strong sense of community.
“I have asked South Yorkshire Police and the council’s Safer Neighbourhood Team to step up patrols in and around the park.
“If anyone has any information regarding this incident please report to South Yorkshire Police on 101.”
