A WOMBWELL gym coach is this week celebrating the publication of his autobiography, Don’t Stop Believing.
And what a story Charlie Green, who runs boxing gym Retro Fitness, has to tell.
From humble beginnings on a Hoyland council estate, Charlie’s success as an international martial arts champion led to a series of worldwide adventures, rubbing shoulders with the biggest UFC names on the planet.
The book also charts Charlie’s heroic life or death battle against sepsis and Covid pneumonia which saw him in a coma for three weeks during the pandemic.
Ghost written by Wombwell writer Gary Rowley, Don’t Stop Believing is currently ranked as the best-selling martial arts book on Amazon.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet it’s been a lot of hard work but it’s been brilliant. Gary and I have become really good friends while working on this and I am really happy with it,” said Charlie.
“It started as a dream then a simple message to the fabulous Gary Rowley.
“It’s taken over nine months to get this over the line. There have been belly laughs and a few tears shed along the way.
“Please buy the book and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.”
There’s a free official book launch at Rock and Reggae bar in The Arcade in Barnsley from noon to 4pm on Saturday August 12 and tickets, priced at £20, are still available for a VIP launch in Barnsley town centre from 7pm while 11pm on the same day.
