JOSH Benson is ‘in contention’ to return to Barnsley’s league side but Neill Collins added: “we’re going to have good players miss out on the matchday squad.”
Midfielder Benson, 23, has played just a few minutes of League One football this season and his only starts have been in the EFL Trophy in which he recorded an assist on Tuesday. He missed the start of the season with an ankle injury then was left out of the last two league matchday squads.
Head coach Collins told the Chronicle: “Josh had a small injury, that’s why he has missed out on the last couple of squads. We’re really competitive in that area.
“Josh has missed a lot of pre-season but showed a lot of positives (on Tuesday). He comes into contention.
“We’re going to have good players miss out on the matchday squad.
“It won’t necessarily be Josh.”
