PAST and present Barnsley Football Club stars were on hand to deliver an anti-racism campaign to local children last week.
Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity.
It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Primary schools from across Barnsley were invited to join us to take part in the half day session with the charity which has now been running for 26 years.
Last Wednesday, pupils from the Forest Academy and Summer Lane Primary School attended a session at Oakwell to help stop discrimination in the game.
The students were also joined by Barnsley FC defender Barry Cotter, Barnsley Women FC player Charley Evans and Barnsley FC alumni Kayode Odejayi who interacted with the students during the ‘Change Makers’ section where they showcased what they had learnt and what changes they would like to make and see going forward.
A spokesperson for Barnsley FC’s charity said: “We were really excited to welcome back Show Racism the Red Card this year.
“The educational practices and interactive activities are really well received by the primary schools and help to deliver the important message in a fun and educational way.
“We look forward to working with them again in the future.
“We would also like to thank the Barnsley FC players and alumni for joining us at the important event.”
