A BOOK dedicated to ‘Mr Barnsley’ Norman Rimmington has been released on the centenary of his birth.
Ronnie Steele has previously written books around Barry Hines and his youth - and he’s now travelled back in time to recall his memories of the legendary Barnsley man.
Born in Staincross, Rimmo signed for the Reds as a goalkeeper from Mapplewell Town at the end of the Second World War then, after a broken leg ended his playing career, he was a coach, groundsman, physiotherapist and kitman - working in the washroom into his 90s.
Ronnie’s new book, ‘Norman Rimmington - Forever One Of Our Own’, has now been released.
Ronnie played at Oakwell for the reserves after he signed as an apprentice professional at Oakwell in the early 1970s.
The two stories Ronnie has written about Norman, give an insight into Rimmo the coach, as well as a behind-the-scenes snapshot of what professional football was like around this time.
He said: “The book contains 28 tales altogether, which are sure to provoke laughter, heartbreak and, in some cases, controversy.”
