Victor Adeboyejo believes he can make a crucial scoring contribution to Barnsley’s promotion cause, despite a 23-match goalless run in League One.

The 21-year-old striker netted in his first two league games for the club in August but his only two strikes in the next eight months were in the Checkatrade Trophy.  Of his 25 league appearances this season, 23 have been from the bench while 14 of those have seen him come on in the final ten minutes. In total, his time on the pitch this season adds up to less than six full games.

He told the Chronicle: “I definitely feel like I have a big moment to come before the end of this season. I just have to keep believing and then take my chance when it comes. I’m ready and raring to go. Everyone has got it in them to get a goal. The goals have been spread out throughout the team. “I just need to make do with the time I get and make an impact when I can.”

He added: “My season started very well but it’s died down a bit. The players who are starting are really doing well but it’s just up to me to keep believing and keep developing as a player. I am just dealing with the ups and downs of  the professional game.”

Adeboyejo said the defeat at Burton Albion on Saturday – a first in 20 league games – was an ‘unfamiliar feeling’ but believes the Reds can still get automatic promotion. He said: “The boys have had it drilled into them all season to never give up. Everyone knows to keep going and keep going and it will come off for us. We have been told to push aside the Burton game and take the positives then move onto the next one.

"If we keep working hard like we have all season, hopefully results will go for us. Automatic promotion has always been the goal all season and we will keep going until the end. It looks like we will have to win all five games to get in the top two but I wouldn’t put it past us. We will definitely get there if we keep working as hard as we have been.”

Adeboyejo thanked the 1,714 fans who travelled to Burton, adding: “The supporters have been brilliant since the first day of the season and I am sure they will keep doing that until the end.  “We will just keep doing our best to thank them for that.”
