GRIMETHORPE Colliery Band will travel to Leeds this weekend to open a high-profile series of brass band concerts.

The band will perform at the Best of Brass Series alongside some of Yorkshire’s best bands.

They will play Rodrigo’s ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ or ‘Concerto D’Orange Juice’ just as they did for the soundtrack of the 1996 film Brassed Off.

The programme also features Downie’s ‘In Perfect Peace’, orchestral arrangements of Berlioz’s ‘Corsair’ and Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird’, some traditional songs and jazz pieces.

They will be led by musical director Sandy Smith, who played principal horn with the Black Dyke Band, Fairey Band and Grimethorpe and has directed the band for seven years.

Grimethorpe’s performance at the Best of Brass Series will take place tomorrow at Morley Town Hall, Leeds.

Tickets are £14.50, £12.50 concessions, and can be purchased from the Box Office on 0113 376 0318 or online at www.leedsconcertseason.co.uk
