Daniel Stendel hopes captain and goalkeeper Adam Davies will sign a new contract at the end of this season.

The 26-year-old has made more than 200 appearances since arriving from Sheffield Wednesday in 2014 and has been one of the Reds’ star players in their current promotion challenge. His contract is due to expire in the summer after the club decided not to offer him a new deal last year, and enter instead into negotiations with Ryan Hedges, Adam Jackson and the now-departed George Moncur.

Davies has said he will discuss his future when the season is over and Stendel has indicated there will be a contract offer for him. Stendel told the Chronicle: “He knows that the club wants him to stay. He is not only a very good goalkeeper but he is a very good skipper for our team. He is a player who has been here for five years and he is a little bit Barnsley FC. I hope he stays because we need him.”
