A MAN who was found guilty of raping a girl when she was under the age of 13 has been jailed for nine years.

Dilbahadur Rayamajhi, of Nicholas Street, Barnsley, denied the rape and five sexual assaults, which took place in the town between 2012 and 2016.

The 44-year-old, who appeared at Sheffield Crown Court alongside an interpreter, was sentenced by Judge Graham Reeds QC last Friday.

An NSPCC spokesman said: “Rayamajhi has rightly faced justice for despicable and vile actions that will have had a profound impact on a vulnerable victim.

“Child abuse can ruin lives and it is so important that when survivors bravely come forward, they know they will be listened to and action taken against the perpetrators.

“In the Barnsley in the 2017/18 school year the NSPCC spoke to 7,202 children and visited 31 schools to deliver our Schools Service programme, teaching children how to keep themselves safe from abuse and empowering them to speak out if they ever experience it.”
