AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a body was discovered in a pond on Sunday morning.
Police were called to Smithies Pond on Smithies Lane at 8.30am following reports that a man’s body was in the pond.
The man, who is in his 50s was listed as an active missing person. His death is currently being treated as unexplained.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances of his death.( A police spokesperson said: “His family have been informed and are being supported by officers. A post mortem was carried out on Sunday evening.
“Due to the deceased having been listed as an active missing person enquiry prior to his death, this matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is routine in such cases.”
