MURDERED MP Jo Cox’s parents were special guests at the SuperJam Tea Party for elderly, lonely or socially isolated people this week.

Dan Jarvis MP - a friend of Jo - also attended the event with Gordon and Jean Leadbeater, as well as Mayor of Barnsley Coun Jeff Ennis and Mayoress Margaret.

Jo’s family support events which bring people together in communities. The ‘Great Get Together’ movement was started in Jo’s memory, inspired by her first speech to Parliament in which she had said ‘we have more in common than that which divides us’.

“It was undoubtedly a Great Get Together and a chance to remember Jo and her sterling work on combating loneliness and social isolation,” said Kathy Markwick, who organises the monthly gathering at the Holiday Inn.

“It was an excellent event at which to showcase to our 170 guests what we are doing to alleviate loneliness and social isolation across Barnsley.”

The next SuperJam Tea party will be held on Tuesday May 15. Tickets must be booked in advance by calling Kathy on 0114 283 0827 or 0772 9528844.
