Ben Mansford has left his job as Barnsley FC's chief executive to join Championship rivals Leeds United.

Linton Brown has been appointed as acting chief executive and has joined the club's board, having previously been the Reds' head of commercial.

Mansford left his job as an agent to take up his role at Oakwell in 2013. His first season saw relegation from the Championship but he leaves for local rivals Leeds with the Reds returning to that level after promotion was secured last month.

Brown, a former footballer for Hull City and Swansea City, was brought to the club two years ago. The 48-year-old left earlier this season for a firm in London but returned several months later. He has been credited with improving Barnsley's commercial revenue and securing numerous sponsorship deals.

A Barnsley FC statement said: "A former professional footballer himself, Linton has built an impressive career off the field and boasts extensive experience within the football industry.

"Significant progress has been made commercially since joining the club in 2014 with Linton being instrumental and very much the driving force behind the club's recent success."
