A KEEN sportsman who overcame a double transplant and the sudden death of his brother to win a host of medals at the British Transplant Games has been put forward for a Proud of Barnsley award for his bravery.

Glen Taylor, 48, of Beeston Square, Athersley North, won two gold medals and a bronze at the games last month.

He underwent a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2007 after being given six months to live and made the difficult decision to compete after the sudden death of his brother Carl the day before the competition started.

Glen took up sport to keep himself and his donor organs healthy and has previously won medals at the World Transplant Games.

He has suffered with severe diabetes for most of his life and was injecting insulin four times a day before the transplant.
