ATTIC Attack, Monolith Hill, Stranger Chorus and The Elephant Trees are just some of the latest bands to be added to the bill for next month’s Barnsley Live festival.

Organisers One Over The Eight have been announcing bands every Monday and Wednesday, and also performing on the day are James Taplin, Tom Prendergast, The Vogues, Humble Williams, Autocracy, Jamie Ainslie, Joel Gardner and Reyt Against The Machine.

Monday’s announcement saw Grigo, The Essentials, Orange Vaudeville Society, Killers and Kings, John Lyons, The State of Ours, Emilia Hill, TFI The 90s, Jack Dickson, The Sheratons, Liam Berry and Grand Ultra announced.

The join about 100 other bands including Black Vines and Hands Off Gretel.

Barnsley Live has replaced the massively successful LIVE In Barnsley which saw hundreds of acts perform in venues across the town centre over five years before a shock announcement that 2017 was to be its last.

Since then, local music promoters and musicians got together and decided they had to fill the void left by the festival’s departure.

The Barnsley Live festival will be held on June 16. The main sponsor is Barnsley College, and Creative Recovery will be the festival’s charity partner.

Chris Scarfe, of One Over The Eight, said: “It has taken a lot of hard work, but it now feels like everything is coming together. The venue line-ups have been sorted and the bands know where they're playing and at what time. Next is the programmes and t-shirts which we hope to be out in a couple of weeks.

“We just hope we can emulate the previous success of Live in Barnsley on the day. You're never going to have an event this size run perfectly, but minimal band cancellations and nice weather would be a start.”
