A NOTICE about 'a gonorrhoea outbreak involving a large number of cases in Hoyland and Elsecar' has led to a medical mix-up.

The Chronicle saw the notice on Tuesday on the wall in the women's toilets at the Hoyland Centre.

It said there had been a large number of cases of the contagious disease gonorrhoea in the Elsecar and Hoyland areas and asked if people thought they were at risk.

However, Barnsley Council stepped in and said there had actually been only 'a small rise' in the number of gonorrhoea cases.
