Luke Steele has signed a new two-year deal at Barnsley, meaning that all seven of the out-of-contract players offered extensions at the end of last season have penned deals.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper's signature ends a saga which saw manager David Flitcroft originally offer his captain a one-year deal and say Steele was 'too old' for a longer deal.

But now the length of the deal has been doubled and Steele has signed up for a seventh season at Oakwell. He has made 194 appearances for the Reds since joining from West Brom in 2008.

Steele told the club's website: “These things take time to get sorted, but now it’s done I am over the moon and I’m very happy to have a new two year deal. I’m excited about this project and I like the whole plan that the club has to move forward.

"It’s the most exciting contract I’ve signed in my time at the club."

Tomasz Cywka, Bobby Hassell and Martin Cranie have also signed new deals this week.
