THIEVES have stolen a bench from the newly refurbished Cooper Memorial Garden.

Barnsley Council has put out a call for information on social media after discovering the bench had been taken from the garden, next to St Mary’s Church on Church Street, Barnsley.

The garden is home to the Barnsley National Reserve memorial as well as other military conflicts across the globe.

Just two weeks ago, work to improve the garden was completed, which saw paving stones relaid, railings painted and new seating was put in place thanks to a grant of £1,900 from MKB Solicitors and a partnership with the Community Payback team.

But already thieves have gone to some effort to remove one of the benches.
