PLANS to build a new fast-food restaurant near a busy roundabout and have a 230-home estate a stone’s throw away will cause further traffic chaos, according to a fed-up councillor.
Burger King’s bid for the former Black Bull pub site, on Grange Lane, is currently under consideration with Barnsley Council’s planning board.
The housing estate - off Bleachcroft Way - has been approved, leading Coun Andrew Gillis to raise his concerns with the impact both will have on nearby Stairfoot roundabout.
“Most - if not all - vehicles that pass through will have to transverse the roundabout,” he added.
“Provisions need to be put in place by the council’s highways department to alleviate the traffic situation, bearing in mind the critical state of traffic backed up from the roundabout.
“At times this goes back to the White Rose roundabout - a distance of one-and-a-half miles.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
