THOUSANDS of pounds of takings and charity donations were stolen from a salon on the outskirts of the town centre in a burglary which saw perpetrators break in through the roof.

Despite ‘extensive’ video and alarm security, Be Beautiful on Summer Lane was broken into earlier this month, causing ‘serious’ damage.

Owner Emma McGuire, 43, underwent a double mastectomy last year and has been collecting funds in the shop - all of which were taken by the thieves - to pay for care packages to help women who are going through the same experience as her.

Emma was diagnosed in April and is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment.

“Over the past few months I’ve made it my mission to try and make a positive difference to other women going through breast cancer,” she said.

“I know what it’s like to go through a mastectomy and the recovery is so difficult.

“I wanted to do something which would help other women and make them a bit more comfortable - and it just feels awful to have lost it all.

“I just really want other people to be aware that this can happen, no matter how much security you’ve got.

“It’s just heartbreaking because I would usually have banked the cash and made sure it was safe, but I’ve taken a step back from the salon recently because I’ve just been too ill.”
