A MENTAL health support group for pregnant women and new mums across Barnsley was launched on Monday.

The group, ‘Mums Understand Mums’, was launched with an open session at their base on the third floor of Library @ the Lightbox.

Sessions will now run from 10am until 12pm every Monday starting next week, giving expecting mums and mothers of babies up to six months old the opportunity to meet.

The group is particularly focussed on supporting those who may be feeling ‘low in mood, lonely, isolated or anxious’ and has been set up by the maternity team at Barnsley Hospital.

Led by mental wellbeing midwife Yasmeen Akhtar, various topics will be covered in the session by a range of specialists.

“We did run this before the pandemic under a different name, and it was really popular,” said Yasmeen.

“We do hope it takes off again, it’s a great opportunity for mums to meet and chat about issues they share.”

Yasmeen can be contacted 07779 445162 or 432193 for more information.
