A FOOD donation scheme organised by Barnsley Football Club’s charity - which has resulted in more than 500kg of items being collected before Oakwell matchdays this season - is hoping for its ‘biggest collection yet’ tomorrow.
Relegated Barnsley’s last home game of the Championship season - which kicks off at 12.30pm against Preston - will double up as Reds in the Community’s final ‘Reds Against Hunger Appeal’ collection.
Reds in the Community’s chief executive officer, Paul France, said: “This will be the last collection held at Oakwell this season - and we hope to make it the biggest so far.
“We have so far collected 548.5kg of food, which equates to providing 1,306 meals to people in need.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
